When 8 startups came together to pamper the modern Indian woman

If you live in Bengaluru, the startup capital of India, you would know that competition here is cut-throat! Usually, everybody is trying to please their target customers in their own ways, but on the last Friday of July 2016, eight startups decided to do it together.
These startups came together to create a clutter-breaking experience for Bengaluru’s modern Indian women, who form a part of the demographic all eight ventures target. And girl, it was fun!
Feature-imageStartups In Sync, an initiative by StyleBank, a Bengaluru-based fashion rental company. brought together other startups including YourStory, Uber, Rentomojo, Housejoy, Eatfresh, Oh My Goodness! and BlueStone to craft their first event, Thank God I’m Female (TGIF). It was an effort to bring together all services for the modern woman under one roof keeping her time constraints in mind.
As first-time entrepreneurs, my co-founder and I realised that there is not much collaboration in the startup ecosystem. I don’t think that’s because all of us do not want to; it’s just that every venture has its head down getting what they need to done. We wanted to do something that would foster alliances between multiple startups and leverage the power of combined reach, marketing effort, database, and effort, and that’s how the initiative Startups In Sync was born,
says Bhavna Suresh, Co-founder of StyleBank
The attendees were carefully handpicked from over 300 registrations and were pampered by each startup in their own special way through their services. Over 75 women arrived at the YourStory office in Ubers and walked into a premium set up of furniture from Rentomojo. They then spent the evening getting styling tips and trying on outfits from StyleBank. They also got to enjoy hair and make-up sessions courtesy Housejoy, try out fine jewellery from BlueStone, and network with like-minded women and influencers from the fashion, beauty, nutrition, fitness, and food spaces over refreshments and snacks by Eatfresh and DropKaffe.
So how do these startups define modern Indian women?
They are women who have their own purchasing power, or who are the significant decision makers in relationships. Most importantly, they are women who are open to and customers of on-demand and access economy services and products,
says Aina Barker, Co-Founder of StyleBank.
After receiving a thunderous response to TGIF, the first edition of Startups in Sync, the organisers are now looking at crafting more events of the kind in the days to come, all suited to the modern woman’s tastes!
