1. ‘Hmmm’

What it means: ‘I really don’t have anything to add to this conversation. Can we change the topic?’ 

2. ‘I’m not angry’

What it means: ‘I’m just a little bit angry, but it’s honestly not a big deal. I’ll get over it if we don’t talk about this for a while.’ 

3. ‘Can we talk about this later?’

What it means: ‘I am going to avoid this right now and really hope that you forget about it later.’ 

4. ‘I didn’t want you to worry.’

What it means: ‘I kinda knew you’d get upset and I really wanted to avoid this drama. I wasn’t lying to hurt you, so can we get past it, please?’ 

5. ‘I’m sorry!’

What it means: ‘I am not really sure what I did, but if me saying sorry makes things okay then here it is!’ 

6. ‘You look prettier without makeup.’

What it means: ‘You really do look super duper amazing without all that glittery stuff I don’t understand.’
